Here is a chart that summarizes the stages of development from "Newborn" to "Five".
Parents should take into consideration how mobile the child becomes as it ages, and take precautions. They need to child proof their house, especially at the mobile toddler age.

Cognitive Development
Child, as you might have noticed in the stages of development picture, go through many growing phases. Here are a couple of stages that you should also keep in mind while you are raising a child.
The Sensorimotor Stage:
This stage lasts from birth to two years of age. This is when the child uses its senses and motor skills to explore and learn the environment around them. They also begin to copy words and noises.
Pre-operational Period:
This stage spans from age two to seven. They are very egocentric at this age. The child begins to use words in the right context and they begin to form proper sentences. Along with that, their memory begins to develop, and they begin to use their imagination more often. Even though they can form sentences, they have not developed enough to use logically thinking, so be prepared to teach them the differences from right and wrong.
Concrete Operations Period:
This stage lasts from age seven to eleven. They begin to understand simple math skills, cause and effect principles, and understands concrete theories. They skill have difficulties with abstract thinking, and need to be encouraged to think outside of the box.
Formal Operations:
From ages eleven to fifteen. The child begins to fully understand their actions and their consequences of their actions. They also think about reason, become more logical, and understand abstract thinking. They begin to question themselves often and will try to figure things out for themselves before they come to a parent for help.
Frequency Asked Questions:
Question: Why do children go through stages like these?
Answer: Because of the development that their brain undergoes as they age. These stages are the natural processes that the body and brain goes through to reach maturity.
The Brain does a lot of maturing as the child grows older. In fact, the brain doesn't reach full size until the mid twenties. And even so, boys and girls have different rates of reaching maturity (boys in the twenties, girls in their teen years). It all depends on the nature of the child and how they are raised.
